Portrait of Evan Barrientos.

I am a photographer and filmmaker serving conservation in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.

Nature has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I earned my bachelor’s degree in natural resources from Cornell University and began my career with jobs in wildlife biology and land management. At the root of each conservation issue I worked on, I saw a lack of understanding. Eventually, I felt that the best way I could support conservation was by helping people see it differently.

In 2006, I became passionate about photography and filmmaking. At first it was just a hobby, but eventually I began using multimedia to support my conservation jobs. In 2018, I accepted a full-time communications position at the National Audubon Society and moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. For Audubon, I’ve told conservation stories in the West and created strategies for using them to reach target audiences and support conservation outcomes.

In 2021, I launched a long-term multimedia project exploring the role of fire in Colorado's forests. The project is using novel and traditional forms of multimedia to help Coloradans realize the role fire has in restoring the health of Western forests. In 2022, I started Evan Barrientos Multimedia, LLC for my freelance work for these forest restoration efforts.

As a visual storyteller, I want people in the West to understand that not only do we depend on nature, but that nature also depends on us. My work focuses on showing why active stewardship of Western forests and grasslands is essential for their existence.
