Southern Oregon’s vernal pools/mounded prairies are one of the rarest habitats in the state. The Nature Conservancy protected and managed a patch of them. Because many of the vernal pools on their properties had been severely degraded, The Nature Conservancy developed a remarkable process for restoring them. Working with their field ecologist and the Oregon Department of Transportation (a project partner), I created this StoryMap documenting this incredible transformation.

Because The Nature Conservancy and other local nonprofits lacked any dedicated communications around the vernal pool ecosystem, this StoryMap provides a novel way to show the importance of vernal pools and their work to restore them. They have used it in Oregon to show their members and partners the importance of this work.
